configuration and system requirements

System requirements for Personal Translator 2008 Intranet

All the required software components with the exception of the operating system and browser are supplied with the installation.

Intranet Servlets

PC: (Standard)
Disk space: 35 MB
Operating system: Windows (2000, 2003, XP, Vista Business and higher); Linux.
Software: Servlet Container capable of supporting Java Servlet 2.4 Specification Standard such as Tomcat 5.5.23, BEA WebLogic 8 and 9. Servlet Container or Application Server usually require JDK v 1.5 or higher.

Translation Server

PC: Double Pentium with two processors, each 3GHz, 2GB RAM
Disk space: two 80 GB hard drives, min. 900 MB; additional space for dictionaries/sentence archives if required
Operating system: Windows (2000, 2003, XP, Vista Business or higher)
Software: JDK v 1.6 or higher (recommended: V 6u2) and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

Server for translation statistics

PC: (Standard)
Disk space: 100 MB for server software, more space if required (depending on growth of database).
Operating system: Windows (2000, 2003, XP, Vista Business or higher); Linux.
Software: JDK v 1.6 or higher. Apache-Derby is also supplied as a database, however a different SQL database with JDBC driver can also be used.

Client:

Software: The user interface provided is optimized for Internet Explorer 6 and 7, and Mozilla Firefox 2. The browser settings should be: Unicode UTF-8 for character representation, enabling of Java scripts (for the user interface provided).
The administrators of each application can create their own GUI components and carry out the relevant updates.

Standard configuration

In the standard configuration , the following components are provided and installed on a PC:

• Web-based user interface for end users and administrators in HTML UTF-8
• Translation server with translation engine
• Statistics server with integrated database and web server
• Servlet Container and web server (Tomcat 5.5.23)
• Sun JDK v6u2, Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0

Distributed installation

The following components can be installed on a separate PC if required:

• Web server for the user interfaces for end users and administrators
• E-mail server
• Translation server with translation engine
• Statistics server with web server
• Statistics database
